GRAD PROJECT

My project the Antipodes is a physical manifestation of emotions as a child regarding the Totorore wreckage. My overarching idea was to explore how art combined with biography can be used to experiment with methods of how we can process and humanize traumatic events.

This allowed me to explore my interest in illustration as well as spark a new interest in museums and heritage.

Recollection in both formal and informal contexts is commonly used in modern-day to help describe people’s lived experiences. Whether in journals, vlogs, or photographs, we are able to form empathetic connections to people close and far from what we personally may consider normal life.

This can be used to help others understand events and trauma and make the concept of emotions more tangible. It can also elevate the author from feeling unheard or from the weight of preserving a memory or oral history.
